Beyond the Interface: Why Sociocultural Research Matters in User Experience
Designing user experiences is not just about aesthetics or functionality—it’s about understanding people. Too often, UX strategies rely on assumptions, surface-level preferences, or standardized benchmarks. Real breakthroughs emerge when design is informed by sociocultural research that uncovers users’ deeper motivations, behaviors, and lived realities. In this talk, the speaker discusses why grounding user experience in real behavioral data is essential. Through a case study, he illustrates how user choices—often unexpected or counterintuitive—are shaped not only by design features but also by cultural context, values, and the desire for seamlessness. The session challenges designers and researchers to look beyond the interface and consider how social and cultural dynamics shape user behavior.
